The Glasgow Girls lure major UEFA commission
Design-savvy souvenir producers, ‘The Glasgow Girls’, based at the city’s Willow Tearooms, won a very special commission for a very special client—producing a gift for the SFA to present to the president of UEFA.
The partnership of Anne Mulhern and Margaret Daly, under the name ‘The Glasgow Girls’, has already achieved great success with upmarket lines of corporate gifts and souvenirs including the popular ‘Glasgow in a Bag’.
But they were thrilled when an enquiry from the Scottish Football Association turned into a very special commission—to produce the SFA’s gift to the UEFA president Michel Platini. Inspired by the Charles Rennie Mackintosh theme for the UEFA Cup Final branding, Margaret and Anne produced a stunning presentation bowl incorporating Mackintosh rose motifs. The gift was presented to the UEFA president at the UEFA Cup Final at Hampden Park in Glasgow last week.
Margaret Daly said: “The SFA were delighted with the engraved Crystal Arts and Crafts Style Rose Bowl. The UEFA logo is designed in a Mackintosh/Art Nouveau style and the typeface worked beautifully.”
Fellow Glasgow Girl Anne Mulhern added: “It’s really wonderful to have an idea that becomes a gift and one which will be preserved and displayed in UEFA’s headquarters in Switzerland.”
